A SINGLETON soldier who was drunk when he crashed into a car, killing a married couple, has had his sentence cut.

Jamie Samuel Whybrow, 23, gave a blood-alcohol reading of 0.15 when his car crossed to the wrong side of Sparks Road, Warnervale, on April 23, 2006.

Ann and Patrick Thomas, of Mannering Park, died and their daughter Kate, who was 18 at the time, was injured.

Whybrow was jailed for nine years with a non-parole period of five years and four months.

The Court of Criminal Appeal reduced that term yesterday to a maximum seven years' jail and a minimum four years and two months.
